Mo'nique stars as Mary Jones, the abusive mother of an overweight teenage-mother named Precious. The film captures the dysfunctional relationship between mother and daughter as Mary continuously does everything in her power to keep her daughter from being something better than she is, even if that includes physical/verbal abuse, and turning a blind-eye to Precious being molested by her father.
Precious was nominated for six Academy Awards and won two, including Best Supporting Actress for Mo'Nique.

The Hurt Locker was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won six, including Best Picture and Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow, who became the first woman to win the award.

Zoe Saldana stars as Neytiri, a female Na'vi (a ten-foot-tall blue-skinned species of sapient humanoids), who rescues Jake, a former marine officer (who appears as a Na'vi-human hybrid body called an avatar, operated via a mental link to Jake's body). Neytiri's clan, the Omaticaya, live on Pandora (a lush, Earth-like moon of the planet Polyphemus), which is under attack by Jake's 'special-ops' military mining team. Neytiri is instructed to teach Jake the Na'vi way of life, in hopes that he can persuade the human military to abandon pillaging Pandora's natural resources.
Avatar was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won three, for Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction. As of December 2009, Avatar was catalogued as one of the most expensive movies ever made, with an estimated production budget of $237,000,000.00 (USD), and it also became the highest grossing film in Hollywood history, earning more than $2 Billion; its current gross revenue is at $2,669,393,054 (USD). Director James Cameron has stated that there will be a sequel.
