NYFW x HVS

NYFW by Jasna Horton

HOUSE OF VERSATILE STYLES x TOJU FOYEH

Presented at 320 Studios, for New York Fashion Week, this year’s House of Versatile Styles and Toju Foyeh collections for Spring/Summer 2012, were something to remember. The invitation-only event incorporated ethnic-print fabrics, bright modern colors and glamorous cocktail dresses; of which, fashion designers Bukola Are and Toluwaloju Olowofoyeku brought their African culture to the runway.

The HVS pieces were inspired by Are’s travels from around the world; not only inspired by her homeland, Nigeria, but also her travels throughout the European countries. It appeared that most of the audience was intrigued by Are’s models (primarily African), who wore bright, neon-blue lipstick and hot pants.

One design, in particular, was a three-piece ensemble that included a bright, blue ruffled skirt accented with gold trimming, a bright, blue blazer with African-inspired patterns and a bustier to match; Are did an extraordinary job in the hand tailoring of each piece, ensuring that each outfit was a great fit.
Toluwaloju Olowofoyeku (designer and owner of Toju Foyeh), created a line that was astonishingly elegant, which gave us a comprehensive look at cocktail and enchanting evening gowns that were immaculately executed. Olowofoyeku's designs, which included different angels and unique necklines to the silhouette, were chic yet diverse, and she -like Are- also integrated many patterns and designs.

Both Are and Olowofoyeku brought diversity and style to the runway, and implemented their cultural experiences via modern looks and captivating elements. Click the link below for some of Jasna's video footage from the show... ENJOY!
