YVES SAINT LAURENT
(August 1, 1936 – June 1, 2008)

The house that Yves built, did not come easy nor did it happen overnight... but longtime, master couturier Yves Saint Laurent left a lasting legacy that millions of people are very familiar with.

YVES SAINT LAURENT LOVED FASHION... And as it was written, in 1957, at the age of 21, Laurent got his first MAJOR fashion job by succeeding Christian Dior as head designer of Dior's label (chosen by Monsieur Dior, after having been a trusty design assistant for a few years). During 1960, Laurent entered the French military, but only served a short period of time before being discharged.

After the military, Laurent returned home, left his post at Dior and began designing his own, eponymous YSL label.

Upon opening his fashion house, Laurent often made risqué choices within the fashion industry... casting a majority of Black models in his shows... to even posing nude for his first, men's fragrance!

Throughout the 60's, 70's and 80's, Laurent's brand became synonymous with luxury and glamour, and the YSL emblem covered everything from handbags, to sunglasses, to cigarette boxes, etc.

Due to Laurent's deteriorating health and purported financial problems (leading up to and after his death), the YSL label has been creatively overseen by notable fashion designers, such as Alber ElbazTom Ford and Stefano Pilati.

In 2002, Yves Saint Laurent took his last bow at the end of the runway, and in 2008, Monsieur Laurent bid adieu to the world... R.I.P!
