It's bound to happen; you see one of your favorite designer's collections and you start to obsess over every, little detail... that is, until your brain decides, "Hey, wait a minute. I've seen this stuff -somewhere- before..."
To show just how much of a 'designer's designer' Nicolas Ghesquière actually is, STYLE 101 has taken the time to provide you with a short list of creative types that he "might have inspired" along the way; and yes, this includes -of course- his Balenciaga successor, Mr. Alexander Wang.
Further commenting on the success of Ghesquière's previous collections (circa 2009), Style.com's Sarah Mower said, "It's a sign of a designer's influence when his work is knocked off as fast as the mass market can run." And here are a few examples of just that...
I do not claim nor propose that these "similar" designs are -or- were a direct copy/rip-off/knock-off of Ghesquière's work at Balenciaga! This post simply shows that sometimes, a designer's creative wires can get a little crossed, and we (the consumers), "might" end up seeing something on a runway (or in stores), that we've previously seen before... That's all.
